| Spark was established in
1994 with the objective of helping young single parents train and
find work. Initially Spark’s core activities were the provision
of adult education for local people with free childcare. The provision
of an afterschool club from the onset was intended to provide affordable
afterschool care for young single mothers once they found paid employment
or went on to further training. Since 1994 Spark has developed a
range of initiatives, each evolving from another as the experience
of working with different groups brings more evidence of need.
Spark is managed by a Board of Directors, numbering thirteen, of
whom six are currently local users.
